How many of us know people who actually believe this statement from Duane? If I imagine I have a million dollars it will be there, well I can honestly tell you that hasn't happened yet. I have faith God will provide for my every need, but if a million dollars isn't lined up within the will of God, guess what? it isn't happening. If it happens because I make it happen, but it's not lined up with the will of God, I don't want it.
Faith is the things HOPED for, and evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 this whole chapter is on those who've gone before us, that has shown faith and taught us faith. I love reading this chapter in the bible because it always reminds me that those mentioned didn't miss the trials, and didn't at one point or another have to come before God on their knees asking for forgiveness, because they allowed their human side to take over. They still stumbled, but yet are seen as those with great faith.
Faith isn't something that is about us, it's believing in something that is more than us. It's believing that we are being taken care of by someone that won't leave us during trials, or place us in a place that will hurt us ( we do that well enough all by ourselves). Faith isn't about getting something in return, or willing it into existence. It's about allowing God to move within our lives, and we are so in tuned with God, our wants will line up with God's will. We will face trials and temptation just like those in Hebrews 11:1 and we will get caught up in messes because we try to do it on our own. The great things is we have a God, who loves us through it and teaches us as we deal with the sin within the world. We have faith that our God loves us and will carry us even when things seem so bad.
I imagine if I was Sarah Abraham's wife when she was told she was going to have a baby at an age conceiving was just not going to happen. How would I respond to the whole situation, then be told that one child was going to be a blood line of many other tribes. I would have looked at someone as if they were crazy, and then remind them I'm too old to chase a kid. Sarah didn't will the situation, she had pretty much given up on having children, but she had faith when she was told about Issac that God was in control, and would do mighty things. Not because she willed it, but because God spoke his will and Sarah believed and followed through. Sarah wasn't perfect she had many flaws when it came to faith,( don't forget that matter about lying to authorities about being Abraham's sister) but when it counted she believed and had faith God would do as he said; and God did.
We can think we've done to much in our lives that God wouldn't want to give us the time of day. But, thank God we have a savior that loves us past all our flaws and loves us as we are. We just have to have faith that God can change us and bring us to a place that he originally intended for Adam and Eve; a communication and relationship with him so deep, we wouldn't want anything more than what God wills for us. As we begin having a relationship with God that allows faith to control, we begin to see what his will is and our will lines up at that point with his. Faith is the things HOPED for, and things yet not seen. My faith is built on knowing I believe in a God that knows whats the best for me, and will be there when life hurts and I don't understand. (because sin in the world brings pain, sickness and hurt ) I can have faith God is holding me through each minute of each day. God wants only the best for me, I just have to let go and have faith God is in control.
