Wonderfully made
We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2: 10
I love this verse so much, When you have kids with special needs many around our children don't understand them, don't understand why they do the things they do, verbally attack them, physically attack them because their different then the rest. Well this verse tells me my son is created by God just as I am, God has created Elijah perfectly within in God's will so that Elijah can be used for God's purposes. God took Elijah and formed him into the precious being he is.
Elijah was attacked this week in school, called names that he's never heard before and beat up while he went to the restroom. My first reaction was to find the little boy and scare the crap out of him, to attack the school for not having better protection for my son. But after much calmness I allowed God to work through the situation, explaining to Elijah there are some kids who don't have Jesus and are mean in their hearts. Those are the ones we need to show christ to by being nice to them even when they do mean things to us. YES we are to get an adult for protection, but we are to still love those that hurt us and forgive them.
I then explained to Elijah that God made him the way God wanted, and because God made him he is perfectly made and no one knows what God has planned for him but God.
Its hard to watch your kids go through something so tough, espically when you know they don't have the ability to protect themselves. We as parents of special need kids want to put a fence around them and protect them from any more pain because they deal with so much anyways.
I have had to release Elijah into God's hands, Allowing Elijah to learn how to face the world on his own with the support of his parents by his side. But the one thing I hope Elijah will always know is God created him for a purpose and God's work will be done through Elijah just as God has planned and seen already.
So when you see someone who has special needs, extend a hand, a hug, a heart. There are reasons God has made these wonderful people the way they are and it may to remind us about Pure love and Joy in all situations.
