Today’s kids are the future leaders of tomorrow, and we have been entrusted to share God’s love in a way that is relevant to them. Here are four ways to tune in and build relationships with today’s kids that I hope will inspire and empower you to make a difference in the next generation. We cant afford not to! 1. Tune in to Prayer Prayer is powerful. Prayer is the central key to the rest of the relationships with kids. Children today need prayer more than ever. They need to understand and know that someone cares for them. I Samuel 1: 10-20, Hannah went to The Lord Almighty to pray. Here are a few things we can learn from this passage to help us tune into kids today and how we can pray for them. A. Hannah came to God with respect. Believing that God would help her in her distress. B. Hannah also came to God with the right attitude. She came as a humble slave to God in her prayer. C. Hannah prayed from the heart. Are you praying from the heart to truly understand the needs of the children God has entrusted you with? 2. Tune in to family Today the family is so different that it is a challenge to get our arms around. . Here are some interesting facts I found recently about the family today. A. 51% of children live in divorced homes today. B. The number of Kids living with Grandparents is 1 in every 14. That is 5.4 million children. Us Census Bureau C. 41% of births take place outside marriage. Up 17% from 3 decades ago. New york times July 14, 2012 D. 1 in 3 kids live without a father today. James Dobson In order for us to tune in we have to find out what is going on in the homes.Kids are dealing with death, loss of animals, divorce, single moms, drugs, sex, etc. When the we come along side these families to help them We can’t ignore what is happening. We have to see the family for what it is. When kids see that we care for them they will see how God loves and cares for them despite the circumstances they are in. 3. Tune in to social media Social media is on the rise. Just give a child a phone or IPad and they go crazy. They can do more things with these devices than we know what to do. I have to have my own kids help me at times with figuring out how to work them. We have to look at different ways to tune kids into God’s word through social media and any means necessary. If we don’t tune into kids where they are now its going to be to late to teach and train them in the future. The future is now and the time to tune in is now. The way it is presented has changed but God’s word is still the same. They sit on buses or in the hallways of school talking to each other not by voice but by text. We have to be willing to change in order to reach these kids. By doing these three things we can tune in and know kids in more ways. Most importantly, we build a dynamic relationship that could change their life for eternity and that is what it’s all about! What are you doing to tune into kids today?
